Just like there are different types of migraines, there are different types of migraine treatments. Some of the medications provide migraine pain relief, while different medications attack other migraine symptoms. Other types of migraine medications are designed to be taken on a regular basis in an effort to prevent migraine attacks from occurring.
To help figure out the best type of treatment for your situation, it’s best to start with a migraine journal. Keeping an accurate, complete diary of every migraine attack and all of your symptoms will help your migraine specialist make a correct migraine diagnosis. The record of your pattern of pain will also assist the doctor in determining which treatment might work best for your situation.

I am using Axert which is the last of the Triptans, all the others have stopped or never worked so I am trying to use it once or twice a week at most, and then wait 2 weeks before I start it again. I am in a bout of very bad close together migraines right now which are at #8 level so I am on a Medrol pack combined with Stadol which is all I have right now. I have a scrip in to a local compounding pharm. for Midrin, which they knew all about and are getting it filled for me no problem, I was so surprised! I am hoping this will perhaps keep my daily migraines from coming in and keep the big ones away! I’ll keep you posted. This has been a very bad 3 weeks with the storm systems rolling through one after the other.
So far, Verapamil BID, and then Maxalt, Fioricet, Stadol NS or Ultram for pain. I am going to take a medrol dose pack today from the neurologist to see if we can get this one to break (its been going for days and its a whopper). Botox injections are scheduled for next week.
