Taking Maxalt During Pregnancy — Pregnancy Category C
There are no adequate studies on the effects of Maxalt during pregnancy. In animals, pregnant animals treated with Maxalt had some babies with problems That’s why you should only use Maxalt during pregnancy if the potential benefit is greater than the potential risk to your unborn child.
If you are pregnant, or think you might be pregnant, talk to your doctor about using Maxalt. You can also check to see if there is a Maxalt pregnancy exposure registry for that medicine.
The Food and Drug Administration has a list of pregnancy exposure registries (http://www.fda.gov/womens/registries/default.htm) that pregnant women can join.
Maxalt While Breast Feeding
It is not known whether Maxalt is carried in human milk. Because many drugs are carried in human milk, ask your doctor if you should avoid taking Maxalt while you are breastfeeding (or planning to nurse) your baby.
