Resisting a migraine diagnosis...

Hi, I have not been fully diagnosed with migraines. Mostly because I'm resisting it. My ENT doctor says its migraines because of the symptoms. I have terrible pressure behind my eyes to the top of my cheeks, bridge of my nose and sometimes the back of my head where it meets my neck. I've been scoped and there is absolutely no sinus infection.

I've always thought that migraines are always debilitating. I push thru this pain but there are some days it's difficult to focus. Occasionally I will get this stabbing pain that comes from the back of my head towards my ear and eye. Imagine a knife going in at that direction. Its a one time flash of pain that will actually cause me to blink or grimace, then nothing for 20 min to an hour. Then it will happen again. When I get that type of headache which is not that often thankfully, it will last 2-3 days.

Anyone with the same issues? Please help me...

  1. Hi LisaTrice,

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Accepting a new diagnosis may not be easy. The thing is the more we learn about our diagnosis, the better care and correct treatment we can receive.

Is there a particular reason you are "resisting" this diagnosis? There are many, many misconceptions about migraine disease, some of which include you can't have migraine pain every day and that they are always debilitating. A migraine attack can range from mild to severe, be debilitating and not so debilitating. In fact you can have migraine attack without the headache phase.

If you're having second thoughts, there is no harm in seeing a neurologist. I did want to mention there is not blood test or image study to confirm a migraine diagnosis. A migraine diagnosis is confirmed after the doctor gives you a complete neurological exam, goes over your symptoms and discussing your medical history.

I hope that helps, let me know what you think
    Nancy
