"i've been getting botox injections regularly for about 2 years now and i'm still having migraines and all kinds of migraine symptoms DAILY. my migraine specialist doesn't really know what else to do because at this point i've tried just about everything, including newer treatments and preventatives. as it is i don't really function anymore. i aim to do things 2 days a week and i rarely manage that much. something has to change but there aren't really any plausible options."

  1. @metaloochie Botox works well for some, but not for others. If it's not working for you ask your doctor about other options. If they can't provide you with any viable options or they are stumped at how to help you then that's a good indication that it's time to search for another doctor. There are so many new drugs out there including the CGRP class of drugs that are really helping a lot of people. My husband has had very good results with Emgality. It really helps him with the severe pain of a migraine attack. He still deals with the symptoms of prodrome, aura, and postdrome, but not having severe head pain is a huge win for him. Don't give up on your treatment or lose heart! There is always something that can be tried. It may take a long time to find the right combination of medications or therapies but it will eventually come. Please continue to be an active and proactive part of your health journey. It will all be worth it one day when you find that stability and relief you desire. Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team

  2. I've already failed out on both Emgality (8 mo) and Aimovig (13 mo). I built up a tolerance for Aimovig and just had too many side effects with Emgality. I moved across the country to see my current migraine specialist because every doctor I'd seen in an 8-hour travel radius was already stumped. I know CGRPs are doing great things for a lot of people and I definitely hoped they would help me but that just isn't how it worked out. I genuinely don't think that there is actually any relief for me at this point.

  3. @metaloochie I'm so sorry to hear that. The journey to fight migraines has definitely been a challenge for you with so many disappointments. I can only imagine how frustrating that is for you. Have you been able to try any of the non-medication therapies for migraines like the Cefaly device or Nerivio? My husband also uses Nerivio at the onset of an attack and that helps to ease it. At any rate, I'll be praying for you and that you will find something that works to ease your pain. Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team
