As with any medicine, Fioricet can cause side effects. Generally, Fioricet may or may not be tolerated well by some people; however certain people may not be able to safely use Fioricet because they have certain medical conditions.

The most common reported side effects of Fioricet (mainly due to the butalbital component) are:

  • Drowsiness
  • Lightheadedness
  • Dizziness
  • Sedation
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dulled senses

Other possible side effects caused by the acetaminophen in Fioricet include:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Rash
  • Low blood cell count

Other possible side effects caused by the caffeine in Fioricet include:

  • Rapid heart rate
  • Irritability
  • Shaking
  • Dependence on drug
  • Poisonous effect on the kidneys
  • Increased blood sugar levels
