  • Inderal LA and Chest Pain (Angina)
  • Inderal LA and Difficulty Breathing (Asthma)
  • Inderal LA and Slowing of Heart Rate (Bradycardia)

Inderal LA and Chest Pain (Angina Pectoris)

Never stop taking Inderal LA suddenly. This can cause a worsening of chest pain or possibly a heart attack. If you are planning to stop taking Inderal LA, ask your doctor how to safely lower your dose of propranolol over the course of a few weeks. If your Inderal LA dose is lowered or stopped and your chest pain worsens, your doctor may tell you to begin taking Inderal LA again. Or he or she may prescribe another medicine to treat your chest pain.

Inderal LA and Asthma

If you have asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or other breathing problems not related to allergies, your doctor should monitor you closely if he or she prescribes Inderal LA to treat your high blood pressure or prevent chest pain or migraine attacks. Propranolol (the active ingredient in Inderal LA) has been reported to cause asthma attacks and other allergic reactions in some people.

Inderal LA and Slowing of Heart Rate (Bradycardia)

The most common adverse effect of Inderal LA on the heart is bradycardia,(slowing of the heart rate) especially in people on high doses of digoxin. Bradycardia is occasionally severe and can also cause low blood pressure, fainting , shock or chest pain. In people with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, (a type of heart arrhythmia) there can be a severe problem with lowering the of the heart rate. Check with your doctor if you have any of these problems before using Inderal LA.
