Treximet Efficacy

Introduction to Treximet Efficacy

Treximet has been extensively studied to receive approval by the Food and Drug Administration for its use in the United States. Like all prescription medications, Treximet had to be evaluated for how well it works for its intended use in relation to the number and types of side effects. Only you and your doctor can determine together if taking the medication provides enough benefit to outweigh any potential risks.

Studies Show that Treximet Works to Treat a Migraine in Progress

Treximet has been shown to work in large numbers of people in at least 2 clinical studies prior to getting approved for use in the United States. These studies looked at the effect the drug had on treating headache pain.

Treximet Efficacy in Adults with Migraine Headaches

Treximet was found to be effective in treating migraines in at least 2 large studies that compared placebo (a sugar pill containing no medicine) with each component of Treximet (sumatriptan and naproxen sodium). In both studies, the percentage of people who experienced headache pain relief 2 hours after treatment was significantly greater among people taking Treximet compared with people who took placebo.

Additionally, the percentage of people who remained pain free for 24 hours after taking Treximet without using other medications to relieve their migraine was significantly greater among people who took a single dose of Treximet compared with people who took placebo or either sumatriptan or naproxen sodium alone.

Treximet Use in Children:

Safety and effectiveness of Treximet in children have not been established.

Treximet Use in Older Adults:

Treximet is not recommended for older adults who have liver or kidney problems, higher risk for coronary artery disease, and increases in blood pressure.

Deciding if Treximet is Right for You

Treximet has been used effectively by millions of consumers in the United States. Only a physician can decide if Treximet is right for you, but you should understand the potential benefits and risks of taking this medicine. If you are taking Treximet and have any concerns, be sure to speak with your doctor. Never stop taking any medication without your doctor’s advice.
