Treximet Side Effects

As with any medicine, Treximet can cause side effects. Generally, Treximet is tolerated well by most people, however certain people may not be able to safely use Treximet because they have certain medical conditions such as heart disease or gastrointestinal disease.

 

Cardiovascular (Heart) Risk

Treximet may cause an increased risk of serious blood clots in the heart, heart attack and stroke, which can be fatal. You may have greater risk the longer you use Treximet or if you have risk factors or active heart disease.

Gastrointestinal (Stomach and Intestines) Risk

Treximet contains naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). These types of products increase your chance of having bleeding problems including bleeding, ulcers, and holes in the stomach or intestines, which can be fatal. The risk of bleed is unrelated to how long you take the drug and can occur at any time and without warning.

The most common reported Treximet side effects are:

  • Dizziness
  • Sleepiness
  • Tingling, prickling or numbness of skin
  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Dry mouth
  • Chest discomfort/chest pain
  • Neck/throat/jaw pain/tightness or pressure

Treximet Side Effects

Side effects of Treximet may change depending on the dose you take. The side effects listed in the table below were experienced by 2% or more of the patients in the Treximet clinical trials for migraine headaches. Most side effects were mild and didn’t last long.

Stop Treximet and call your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms while taking Treximet, Including:

  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Swelling of the face or throat
  • Weakness in one part or on one side of your body
  • Slurred speech.
  • Nausea that seems out of proportion to your migraine
  • Stomach pain
  • Sudden/severe pain in your belly
  • Vomit blood
  • Blood in your stool or it is black and sticky like tar
  • Itching
  • Skin rash or blisters with fever
  • Yellow skin or eyes
  • Swelling of the arms and legs, hands, feet, face, lips, or tongue
  • Unusual weight gain
  • More tired or weaker than usual
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Serotonin syndrome.(since Treximet began being prescribed by doctors, rarely people have also this condition.
