Ultram (tramadol) Uses

Ultram and Ultram ER Are Used to Treat Pain

Pain originates in the nervous system and may be sharp or dull.

Chronic pain is constant and can sometimes occur over long periods of time. Pain can alert you to the presence of a specific injury or it may be difficult to determine what is causing the pain.

Ultram and Ultram ER are used for mild to moderate pain. Ultram contains tramadol, a centrally acting, man-made narcotic-like pain reliever.

Although the exact way Ultram works is not understood, it is thought that it binds to certain opioid receptors in your body and affects the activity of some key chemicals that send messages in your brain (norepinephrine and serotonin).

Pain relief begins within one hour after taking a dose and reaches peak effectiveness 2 to 3 hours after being taken.
