Has anyone had experience tapering off fioricet?

I’ve had a few doctors tell me to go cold turkey but that’s not an option. If anyone knows of a pain management specialist or any other resource I’d be appreciative. Thank you!

I was once on it for undiagnosed headaches. When I stopped taking it, I was admitted to an inpatient drug detox ward in a hospital. it. I might have beentaking a higher dose. However you do it, good luck.

Last summer I went off Fioricet completely and haven’t had any since, although some days I know it’s the only thing that’s given me relief. BUT I knew I was having rebound headaches from the Fioricet. I did taper off over a two-week period, but I stlll had a hard time. I was on such a low dosage of Fioricet that I didn’t think it would cause rebound headaches. But I took my neurologist’s advice and went off of it, and I soon learned that he was right. I will say my migraines aren’t any less frequent but I can definitely say they aren’t as painful. These days I try not to take any medicine, even Tylenol. One thing I know is that I will have migraines regardless of the meds I take to prevent or to rescue. So I just ride out the pain and try my best to stick to a regular sleep/eat routine and try to avoid any triggers. I’m sorry this probably isn’t super helpful but I just more wanted to let you know that you’re making the right decision to go off of it and you’re not alone.

    Hi nurm28,
Thanks so much for you question! As you wait for possible feedback from the community, I just wanted to share that I would certainly consult with another doctor or pharmacist for additional opinions. Just as this article discusses here, going “cold turkey” is likely not the best course to take! Nice hearing from you and always feel free to reach out. Best, Joanna (Migraine.com Team)
