Do you get chest pains with your migraine?

I am getting these chest pains which feel like heart issues, but all of my tests have come back ok. I notice they either precede a migraine or occur on the 2nd or 3rd day of a long migraine.

  1. Hi Michelle Rudder, thank you for reaching out! I hear how disconcerting it feels to experience chest pain and am glad you have contacted your doctor to have testing done. Another member of the community asked a similar question awhile back when experiencing something similar and I thought the discussion it generated might be of interest to you: https://migraine.com/topic/migraines-with-chest-pain/ Clearly you are not alone experiencing chest pain with migraine! I hope this is helpful for you. Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (Migraine.com team)

    1. Yes. Sometimes I do. I also have hypotension, mitral valve prolapse and arrythmia.

I tend to get chest pain and palpatations with migraines triggered by dehydration, exercise, lack of salt, or the food triggers garlic and onion. These will linger until the underlying cause is treated or sometimes through the entire migraine. I find in addition to water and salt that magnesium and meditative deep breathing will help along with reclining with my head higher that my heart.

Also, I get chest pains and palpatations as aura symptoms with sudden onset migraines triggered by sensory overload. These are accompannied by other panic attack symptoms and generally last only a few minutes before the migraine hits and disables me, then the chest pains dissappear.

I use the Migraine Buddy app and it says over 130,000 users report chest pain as a symptom.

You are not alone. But I do recommend seeing a cardiologist to evaluate any other possible causes.

      Best to you
