Anyone else have a dependency on Zolmitriptan?

Zolmitriptan is a migraine drug and should be taken a maximum of 10 times a month. I take it every 24 hours. Right now it is putting me at a slightly increased risk of stroke and it is less likely to work effectively. I used to just take it when I had a migraine, or could feel one coming. But then the frequency of my migraines increased. I started waking up with migraines and medicating immediately and now I take it first thing in the morning when I wake up. Otherwise I start the day with nausea and head pain.

So, has this happened to anyone else? My dr isn't overly worried about it, but they have recommended that I take it less. I've tried over and over, but failed. Has anyone else been through this because I feel pretty scared and stuck at this point. what should I do?

  1. Samiulsami, thank you for reaching out! I hear how much you struggle living with migraine. It is miserable feeling stuck and dependent on a medication meant only to be taken 10 times in a month but falling deep into the grip of migraine without it. I'm glad you are communicating with your doctor about how you are feeling and the amount of medication you are taking. We cannot offer medical advice over the internet (for your safety!) but I thought the author's experience in this article might resonate with yours. https://migraine.com/living-migraine/medication-overuse-headache-detox/ I hope others will also share their experiences with you. 1. Are you on preventative treatment? It sounds as though that's something you ought to discuss with your doctor too.

I live in fear of triptans becoming ineffective, as there aren't many of them and I'm already not responding to 4 of them...

      1. Hey... You are right, Recently Triptan isn't working anymore...still now i've headache on my left side...what to do?
