Does anyone else experience long term aura?

Hi I have been experiencing auras for over 3 months now. They began prior to a 27 day un-breakable headache. Now my headaches are minimal most days but come and go (very chronic migraines) but the auras stay. I had blurred vision for a month and a half and for the entire time I have seen starbursts or beams of light coming off of certain types of light sources. Does anyone have experience with auras lasting this long? I can’t leave my house after dark because the street lights are so disorienting.

My wife has been struggling with this for 60 days now. She had a migraine with headache and aura in mid January but the visual disturbances never went away. Constant floaters, beams of light and blurryness distort her view. Florecent lights and the sun reflecting off of cars in on coming traffic seem to be the worst in addition to lights at night. Does any one have any ideas of who to see? We are trying to get into the Michigan Heache and Neurology Institute. Does anyone have any luck with indoor glasses to filter out some of the florecent light glare? Please help.

@pipedream that sounds exactly what I am experiencing! Blue shield glasses from Amazon help a bit with fluorescent light as well as with screens. I also always wear a cap to block out some light!

We did go to MHNI last week and saw a handful of doctors. Apparently this is a rare condition referred to as “Persistent Visual Aura without Headache”. We were given a few drugs to try and a we also need to get a couple of additional MRI and MRAs to rule out any vascular issues that can sometimes cause this. One thing that my wife and I have noticed about her eyes has been her pupils. Frequently she her pupils seem to be dilated (larger) even when the room is extremely bright in comparison to others in the room. I’m not sure if this is a function of the anxiety she is feeling with this condition or the condition itself. I also wonder if this is not related to the anxiety this might be causing much of her discomfort especially to light. Anyone else out there notice this?

Unfortunately a lot of her symptoms seem to mimic other disorders and its only by trial and error that they can rule them out. On such disorder that i read a lot about recently is “Depersonalization disorder”. Any thoughts?

hi its comforting to see many more people on here that can relate to me
I have floaters daily my problem is forgetting about them and not getting too anxious which I do on occasions, to forget they are there is a relief, its not good to think about it too much, although I know that’s easier said
hope all of you find a way to cope with this, thanks for giving me comfort

Same for me too. Chronic for 12 years and the visual aura symptoms never appear to go but will reduce in intensity as migraine eases. Black jagged lines that float in front of vision and recently vision started blurring too in relation to strength of migraine. I have no answer for you but you are not alone, I am sorry you are both (all) suffering.

Yup, I’m chronic and have some level of headache daily. My aura of neon fireflies in various colors appears nearly daily, intensifiying as the headache worsens, and as the day progresses. Don’t really have a way to get rid of them.

Hi there @mado, Thanks for your question! Your question was also featured on Twitter and I wanted to pass along one of the replies. I will be sure to share any additional should the tweet receive any additional responses.

Twitter Reply: Floaters and fairy lights in my vision for days at a time, depth perception issues for months at a time. Accidentally, I discovered Scopolamine patches breaks the cycle … usually. #migraineproblems

Yes I too have very chronic migraines and also have visual disturbance most of the time.
Vertical and horizontal lines shimmering. I’ve also had some blurred vision – thought it was just me!

Wow! I can’t believe I found someone else. I can’t find anything written about this anywhere on the Internet. How long has this been occurring for you? I feel like I can manage the pain but the visual symptoms are actually the most debilitating thing for me. Also I’m very sorry that you also have to deal with this.

Hi there again @Mado, I am very happy to see that you have received some community feedback, but I did also just want to be sure to mention that if you have not already to be sure to discuss what you are experiencing with you doctor in order to rule out anything more serious.
