Has anyone tried Phenergan

I just learned about Phenergan through this site and am intrigued. I have been to the ER more times than I can remember for vomiting and no doctor ever mentioned this drug. Even though it sounds sedating I would rather be asleep at home rather than vomiting and dehydrated in the ER. Has anyone suffered serious side effects from taking it? If they give it to pregnant women how bad can it be? Zofran doesn’t work for me.

I relied on it for years to help with the nausea without any side effects other than being sleepy (which was welcome during a bad session). It also comes as a suppository for those times you can’t keep anything down.

Thank you! I will ask for an Rx and will be more prepared for the next episode.

Hi – I’ve been taking phenergan (promethazine is the generic), for a few years now to help with the nausea I get from migraines and accompanying vertigo. I also get extremely motion sick (even while I’m driving myself sometimes!). I think phenergan works great. I had Zofran prescribes to me one time for nausea when I had my gallbladder removed, and I didn’t really think it helped the nausea. I don’t take phenergan very often but it always seems to help the nausea when I do take it. It does make me a little drowsy but I’m usually in bed with a migraine when I take it anyway. I don’t think it’s very strong but everyone reacts differently to medication. I’d say it makes me about as drowsy as a couple of Benadryl. Hope that helps and you feel better!
