Muscle relaxants and overuse headache

Are there any muscle relaxant type medications I can use daily without risk of medication overuse headache? I have very severe muscle pain and spasms daily that makes my chronic migraine worse. I have baclofen to use during attacks but was told it falls under "rescue medication" so I can't use it more than 15 days a month. But it helps SO much ... knocks my daily pain down 2-3 knotages (migraine brain refusing to tell me how to properly spell, sorry). And that decreases makes the difference between laying on the couch in constant pain and being able to move around and get a few things done. If I could take it daily, it would make my life so much easier and less painful. Thanks!

  1. Hi Tamara! Thanks for being here and for sharing your question. For your safety, we cannot offer medical advice. We would advise that you speak with your doctor. If you feel that your doctor doesn't help you feel heard, you might want to check out the list of Board Certified Headache Specialists for information on connecting with specialists in your area. -I hope that helps. -Warmly, Donna (Migraine.com team)

    1. I take Baclofen everyday as a preventative medication. Maybe you should get a second opinion on it. I have never heard that you can't take it more than a couple times per month.
Best of luck on your migraine journey.

      1. I take Amrix, which is just cyclobenzaprine, but it's extended relief (24 hr). I take it nightly (per doctor). The only issue I have with it is that I am tired all the time. It works relatively well as part of my whole treatment plan. This was prescribed at a headache clinic by a headache specialist.

        1. I take tizadine 3 times a day. Which is a muscle relaxer. I was wondering if anyone heard of Soma people have said that’s is great. I have intractable headaches am in pain almost everyday. I can’t take it. I am going to be 70 and have had them since I was 13.

          1. Hi, Diane -- so sorry you've been struggling for so many years. We've had a few people mention Soma in the past, but not too many. Some did well, and others didn't notice much of a difference. Everyone is different -- we can't give medical advice, but if your doctor thinks it's OK, I'll cross my fingers that it helps you! I hope you'll come back and let us know. -Melissa, migraine.com team
