What foods do you find help you manage the pain of chronic migraine.

I’ve used food as medicine for more than 30years. I learned years ago from a Physician and Nutritionist that those with chronic pain issues tend to burn through B-6; B-12; and Magnesium (raw almonds & chicken are two foods) Intrigued, I started eating food rich in those vitamins and it did help reduce the intensity of my attacks. Currently, I’m on day 9 of a migraine that’s not responding to any medical treatments. Eating some chicken takes me from a 7 down to a 4 or 5 45 minutes after eating but that only lasts for about 2 hours. So, I ask what do you eat that you’ve found helpful?

It’s funny, but tumeric seems to help. I buy salted tumeric candies (no sugar added) and it helps a bit. More of a preventative measure. I also bought a nutri-bullet a few years back. Worked wonders for about 6 months. Not so much after that.

I’m going to try the chicken thing. I do believe magnisium does help. I keep coco powder in the house and use it quite a bit.

    Thank you for the suggestions

Hi there StefD and Joanna Bodner. I learned from your posts. Had no idea about chicken potentially helping migraines and the list link is helpful. Although I’ve gone through an elimination diet process, I was unaware of some foods on the avoid list. Am wondering if there is a difference in black grapes from other types. Since black grapes have so many good nutritional qualities, I’m hoping they may be an exception.

Hi there @StefD, Thanks so much for reaching out and for your question! Nutrition and diet can certainly play a big part in migraine management. I thought I’d share this resource we have which has a great list of foods to eat and foods to avoid…although it already sounds like you are very well versed in this topic as you have discussed this with your doc and nutritionist! Here it is in case you find it helpful – https://migraine.com/blog/elimination-diet-foods-to-eat-foods-to-avoid/.

How have you been feeling these past few days since posting this?

    Take good care,
    Joanna (Migraine.com Team)
