The Migraine That Wouldn't End

I've had migraines for over 20 years and have tried many medications (some with success and some without), changing my diet, eating more of this or less of that, etc.

My migraine symptoms and severity constantly change and are literally making me crazy.

Since the end of June, I have had a migraine or severe headache 5-6 days a week. This past Monday, I had one of the worst migraines I've ever had. I could not reach my neurologist and haggled with my primary care doctor about medications.

In 20 years, I have never asked or accepted pain medications (narcotics). This time, I was asking. I was very clear that the pain was debilitating and the other symptons were manageable. My doctor had me try Midrin, which made me very nauseous and fuzzy feeling and did nothing to help the migraine. I had to wait for prior approval for Maxalt. The approval went through and I was stunned at the price with insurance.

Long story short, my pharmacist came up with a way for me to receive a few free and my neurologist had samples. I'm still getting migraines daily and eagerly await my new medication to help prevent these horrible migraines.
