I tried acupuncture, bio feedback, botox you name it, I’ve tried it. I am under the care of a wonderful doctor at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale AZ. He recently suggested I have what they call an infusion. For 3 days in a fow I had to go to Mayo for this “infusion” I takes about 1 1/2 hrs. per day. I had this treatment the last 3 days of March and I have NOT had a headache since. All of you that suffer like I do, I suggest you discuss this with you doctor. I was told: it might not work and if it did there is no set time as to how long it will last. The treatment is on the expensive side however my insurance covers 80% of it.

The treatment is a combination of the following: decadron, toradol, ativan and benadryl. They come in what looked like a “cansiter” to me. They put the IV in my arm and they slowly infustion the canister into the IV-

All I can say is it is worth a try as FINALLY something has releived my pain.

I reread your story and see that 3 treatments, 3 days in a row are required.

I live in Phoenix and had read on Mayo’s web site that there was a treatment for migraines – however, they did not state what the treatment was so I am glad to read your story here. Are you still Migraine free? If so, for how long since the treatment? I am interested in this therapy to help with my severe Migraines – I hate taking drugs for the pain and have been searching for an alternative for years. What is the cost of the treatment and how many are needed? Thanks, Gail

I have never head of methergine- but know that I know the infusion works, I’m thrilled I’m not taking any med’s.

How interesting, thanks for sharing. Is the 3 day infusion a one time thing or will you have it again? When next? Were you in pain while getting the infusion or was it preventative for future pain? (my story is similiar to yours but im 40s. I’ve had toradol in the E.R. but only after a migraine escalated to where i could no longer stand it)

Have you ever heard of methergine? My headache specialist put me on it 4 times daily @ 0.2 mg & it has helped prevent migraines. Sure, I get an ache here & there but nothing, I mean nothing compared to what it used to be. I was getting toradol, benadryl & zofran every week for FOUR months straight. I couldn’t live in the hospital anymore though. So, when I went to see Dr. Purath in Milwaukee, WI & she agreed that we needed to get aggressive, I was so relieved that she pulled out the big guns! I’ve been migraine-free for 4 months. Good luck to you!
