A.S.M.R.

I am just wondering does anyone out there use these? Does it help sleep and help have some piece of mind?? I am so tired all the time. I see a neurologist that is supposed to be for migraine. I see my dr. Regularly. I take all my meds and supplements as told. All my labs come back ok....I am just not sleeping well. I think I have tried everything. Currently my sleeping pill only works for 4 or so hours.

  1. Hi Lynnek,

Good to see your post up!! A.S.M.R. - Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response is this what you are asking about? I'm afraid I don't know anything about this. When I did a bit of initial research, I wasn't able to find much. But I will continue to look.

I'm sorry you aren't sleeping well - problems with sleep can be a strong trigger for many of us. Have you by chance had a sleep study? You may want to talk to your doctor about having one done. In the meantime here is some information on sleep for you: https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-triggers-sleep-1/ and https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-triggers-sleep-2/ and https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-triggers-more-sleep-rules-tips-and-tricks-part-3/.

The things about neurologists is they may be good doctors but have a hard time being experts in one area because they treat so many different conditions such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's and others. Migraine/headache disorder specialists are the experts who have extra board certification in headache medicine and treat one disease - ours- migraine and headache disorders. For more information on why these doctors are so special continue reading this; https://migraine.com/blog/how-are-migraine-specialists-different/ and they when you want to look for one here is that information https://migraine.com/blog/looking-for-a-migraine-specialist/.

Let me know what you think,
    Nancy

    1. I am capable of triggering ASMR as well and do use it to either try to knockout milder migraines or keep them from developing. ASMR and Migraines seem to be on the same nerves. If it's a mild headache, I can usually trigger it but if it's severe then I can't.

Right now ASMR's basically a pseudo science but so much about migraines is unknown that it doesn't bother me that much. It basically feels like the relaxing feeling of being in a bath or getting a massage over your whole body.

The best trigger for me is the sound of a bathtub filling. I have 4 recordings on my iPhone that I play whenever I feel a headache coming on to try to ward it off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just buys me more time.
