Acupressure

Forty years ago I took an acupressure class. At the beginning of one session I began to get one of of my 21 hr. "take me to the ER" migraines. Rather than let me leave class, the instructor said he could treat it. He applied excruciating pressure with his thumbs to the 2 trigger points on the trapezius muscle that runs across the top of shoulder at a point about an inch from the intersection with the neck. It took 45 minutes, but the migraine was gone! Unfortunately, and unbelievably, in the intervening forty years, due in part to where I live, I have not been able to find any one who would/could do this for me. As a result, I ended up with migraines 2X a. day, with a pain specialist who had me on 180 mg. of morphine twice a day, just making them more frequent and severe. With my 3rd case of now intractable pneumonia in 18 mo. because I lived in my bed due, not to the drugs, but the debilitating migraines., I took myself off all the drugs, (my Dr. refused to) and the next week met a woman who has done acupressure and massage for 25 years. As soon as I stopped the opioids, the migraines stopped. But I knew it was only a temporary reprieve.. I have weekly sessions for acupressure, and deep massage of.the neck, shoulders, and back monthly. I am migraine free for 6 weeks now, after 60 years of fear and pain! Best Wishes

  1. Thank you. I also have had 60 years of chronic migraine and am looking for a non-medication solution. I have the name of an integrative medicine MD and I'm going to ask him to try this or recommend a person who does acupressure massage.
    I'm so happy for you.
