Air feels like laughing gas before migraine

  • By Fennel

    Several times I’ve gotten a symptom before or during the headache phase of a migraine where any air I breathe in feels like it’s gas, particularly laughing gas which I’ve had many times for corticosteroid injections and dental procedures. Everyone else in the room always says everything seems normal to them. I can’t find anything online about this; anyone here get it too?

    Hi Fennel,

    Thank you for your question and being part of the discussion forum! We’re glad you’re here.

    I’ve not experienced this, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Many people with migraine experience auditory, olfactory and gustatory – hearing, smelling and taste – hallucinations. I have occasionally smelled smoke during aura, the second phase of a migraine attack, and hearing things that aren’t really there.

    Here is information on the phases of a migraine attack that may help;

    Let me know if you have more questions,

    I often feel like air is heavier than it is during my pain phase. It feels similar to high humidity or like when you’ve been confined in a small room for a long time.
    It’s not the same but it’s similar.
