Anyone notice that showers help?

It might seem kind of trivial, but when I'm all out of my migraine meds for the week I've noticed that taking a shower can sometimes give me a little relief.

Sometimes warm water helps, sometimes cool. Even if I'm too exhausted to stand Ive found that just sitting in the tub and let the water run over my scalp and neck is very soothing, like a gentle massage. It doesn't stop the migraine by any means, but it's certainly better than nothing. (I've actually had some migraine meds prescribed that have helped less haha)

Another advantage is that it tends to make me sleepy for when I can't sleep, and sleep is my best friend when it comes to migraines.

Just don't use a strongly perfumed soap that might make the migraine worse. Hope this helps someone.

  1. Yes! Hot showers with variable jets does help. When I've had a long round that just keeps hanging on, a hot shower cuts the pain down to tolerable levels. The trick is finding a way to support my weak body. Shower chairs are essential.

    1. Sadly for me showers are a trigger =( hot ones are worse for it while cold ones still will trigger though less severely

      1. I don't notice a drastic reduction in pain, but it helps with the tension I have. It also opens my sinuses a little which feels amazing.

        1. This helps me, too. Actually, I take a hot bath but I'm sure a hot shower works also. I like to put a cup of epsom salts in so that I get some magnesium. I also use a water filter for the chlorine and 1/2 teaspoon vitamin C powder to try and reduce the ammonia (my city uses chlorimine, a combo of chlorine and amonia). Whenever I feel a migraine coming on, I try to get in the bath as soon as I can.
