At a loss

Hello! I have been having migraines for many years. Typically they come about every 6 months or so and always start with a visual aura in my left eye. Recently I've had a persistent spot in my right eye for about 2 weeks that I've had checked out and they've ruled nothing is wrong with my eye. Also had a brain MRI that showed nothing. I typically wake up with no headache but develop one throughout the day that feels like a less severe migraine but always in the same spot that my migraines typically are. Also of note-I haven't noticed this spot in my left eye until yesterday, but the spot is less severe on my left and comes and goes. I really don't know what to do, especially when physicians are saying nothing is wrong with me. Has anyone ever had anything similar to this?

  1. HI worrieder,

Thank you for your question and being part of the Migraine.com discussion forum - we're glad you're here!

It can be scary when we have new and/or different symptoms. Great job getting in touch with your doctor and having an MRI, good to hear it was normal. Did you have your eye checked out by an ophthalmologist, optician or optometrist? If it wasn't an ophthalmologist (this is an MD who specializes in diseases of the eye) I would encourage you to seek one out.

Are you by any chance taking something every day or almost every day to help relieve this pain? One problem we can encounter when we do this is called medication overuse headache, moh which was formerly called rebound. If we take migraine medications and/or pain relievers, whether the are over-the-counter or prescription, more than two to three days a week can create moh. And the thing is if we are in an moh cycle our migraine attacks will be more difficult to treat and we can end up in a daily cycle of pain that too is hard to treat. When you get a moment take a look at this information; https://migraine.com/living-migraine/stop-rebound-headaches/.

Hopefully others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.

Let me know what you think
    Nancy
