At-Home Biofeedback Help

My migraines have been disruptive since 2006. My neurologist has found me to be oversensitive to the most popular migraine preventatives. The side effects are as disruptive as the migraines.

I've been reading about Biofeedback as a alternative or partner treatment and had luck with it for stress back in the 1990's, when it was still a relatively new thing. (cassette tapes, remember them? 😉 )

The problem is, my health coverage is too much out of pocket to go to a professional. I've been looking at books and at-home kits, but the prices are wildly high or the low cost things are useless.

Does anyone have good recommendations for at-home Biofeedback kits that are reputable and do not cost hundreds of dollars?

I'm open to alternatives as well. I do some Yoga and have been working on meditation Youtube videos as well.

Thanks, I appreciate any suggestions!

Jen

  1. Jen,
I've had success with materials from Jon Kabat-Zinn. His focus is on mindfulness. I love his Body Scan meditation and his materials are inexpensive compared to purchasing a biofeedback kit. Here are some links to check out plus you can find his stuff on You Tube before you buy.

Also, this week Oprah and Deepak Chopra have a 21 day meditation challenge that is free. You get emailed a 15 minute meditation every day. They do this a couple of times a year. https://chopracentermeditation.com/

I hope these help as some cheap alternatives!

    1. Katie, thank you!!! Jon's materials ARE inexpensive. I've downloaded them. I've also signed up for the Oprah/Deepak Chopra meditation challenge. I like how Jon's stuff has some Yoga incorporated into the practice.

      I appreciate you!

      1. Hi Jen!

I also love John Kabat-Zinn. I would also love to recommend a book called "Real Happiness" by Sharon Saltzberg. I listen to the audiobook but you can buy a book with a CD of her meditations if you don't use audiobooks. Her voice is very calming, and Week Two touches on using meditation to help deal with chronic pain. I find it very helpful.

        Happy meditating!

        1. Thanks, Lisa! I will check her meditations out.
