Bell's Palsey Type Symptom

I've been getting migraines with and without aura's for for about 40yrs. About 20/25 years ago after one of my attacks the right side of my face became paralyzed. It was like Bell's palsy and my face was back to normal after about an hour. I called the neurologist I was seeing at the time and he told me there was nothing to worry about and that this could happen occasionally. Luckily it never happened again. I still wonder however if it really was "nothing to worry about". I've never heard of it happening to anyone else and every time I see my Dr. I forget about the incident (of course). I'm curious more than anything if this has happened to anyone else. Thanks.

  1. Hi Karen Warner,

Thank you for your question, let's see what information I can give you to help.

It's always a good idea to check in with the doctor when we have new and/or different symptoms, so he can rule out anything more serious.

Migraine symptoms vary from person to person. Having said that, facial numbness and/or tingling may be a migraine symptom. Occasionally my right cheek will become red and numb, just before the headache phase and resolves after the attack. Here is more information on this topic; https://migraine.com/migraine-symptoms/numbness-tingling/.

    I hope that helps,
    Nancy
