Can location of new home be causing increased migraines?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to posting here, but have been reading a lot.
I recently moved- within the same city, but to a new location. There is a river fairly close by- about 300 yards from the back of our house.

Of course, moving is stressful for everyone, but with chronic migraines- it was a chore. I have not felt good since moving- then a caught a cold- which triggered sinus problems- which then triggered more migraines.

Anyway, I started to wonder if the increase in migraines since moving here could possibly be due to the proximity of the river. Weather is a huge trigger for me- especially changes in barometric pressure, but is it a stretch to think that a body of water close by can somehow effect my head? Am I being too paranoid?

My husband thinks it's just the stress from moving, or the recent weather here- I'm in Florida and it's been raining almost every day- so maybe it's just that. This was an expensive move, and I hope it's not the location, because I'd hate to think we have to move again.

Any thoughts?

  1. Hi Dandelion,

I've read that moving, the death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, and major illness can be one of the most stressful things we can go through in life. During these stressful times we may not take care of ourselves as we normally do or want to. Skipping meals, irregular sleeping patterns, not drinking enough water, eating certain foods and other things can be strong migraine triggers. I'd like to share some information on stress and migraine with you; https://migraine.com/blog/your-worst-migraine-triggers-stress-really/ and https://migraine.com/blog/stress-and-migraines/.

Do you have any environmental allergies such as pollen? Allergies from plants and trees that grow near rivers may be strong triggers for some people. Here is information on migraine and allergies from a migraine/headache disorder specialist; https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-and-allergies/. Treating allergies will be less expensive that moving again!

    I hope this helps,

    Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your response. I never thought about the possibility of an allergy to something- and I do have some environmental allergies, so that's something to think about.
I also don't deal well with stress, and moving is VERY stressful, that's for sure.
I think I probably need to take it easy more, and not dwell on the location of the river, etc.
I certainly don't want to have to move again!

      1. Hi Dandelion,

I'm glad you found the information helpful. Stress is no good for any of us! As I said moving and other life stressors can set us back for a while. I know every time we moved it took YEARS before I was acclimated to the area. And I am a fairly outgoing person!

Best of luck and keep us posted!

        Nancy
