Cervical spine and migraines

I’m a 28 year old male, and have suffered from headaches (migraines?) intermittently for the past 1.5 years. I will get a 2-3 week period of chronic daily headaches which will then go away for a month until it comes back. I also get facial tingling (not numbness per say, but like a slight tickle). The headaches began as tension-type (like a band), but now really have no pattern. Recently, I had a near fainting experience which drove me to the ER. The CT was clear (as one had been a year before).

I then had an MRI- also clear , and went to a neurologist, who ordered a cervical spine MRI. This show several degenerative disc issues, and a slight protrusion into my spine. My Neurologist had theorized that this was the cause of my headaches, but I guess I'm a little uncertain. Why? The headaches have come and gone, but the facial tingling has been there consistently now for months. I guess I want to make sure I'm asking the right questions from my neurologist and being an advocate when needed.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

  1. I was told I had dialy migraine and even hemicrania continua... turns out it was b/c of muscles in my neck and back. Anyway, the antispasmodics the doctor put me on relieved so much of the pain. I'm about the same age and also had the constant tingle feeling. So it certainly could be. Good luck!

    1. I have a few herniated disks in my neck and was also diagnosed with occipital neuralgia headaches and chronic irretractable migraines. My doctors tell me that one can have headaches for more than one cause.
