CGRP Antibody

Before posting this I did a quick search and found some older articles about CGRP, but nothing recent.

I was reading a couple of news articles recently about Phase II trials of CGRP antibodies. I recall reading about CGRP antagonists a few years ago. As I recall they ran into some issues with liver problems and things kind of stopped. Based on the limited reading I did last week it looks like there is some progress with antibodies versus antagonists.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

What I like about this is the idea that this is closer to the source of the issue. As we know many of the attempts at treating migraine are directed at the symptoms or simply a "guess" that something might work based on some accidental observation.

Wouldn't it be so nice for someone to say, "Yes, we know where and why migraine begins and here is something to address that at the source."

Here's to hoping CGRP antibodies turns into something effective and widely available.

Please do let me know if you have heard anything about this.

  1. Hi MB,

We do have information in these links on CGRP; https://migraine.com/blog/what-is-calcitonin-gene-related-peptide-cgrp/ and https://migraine.com/blog/what-is-calcitonin-gene-related-peptide-cgrp-part-2/.

There is information in this link from last years American Headache Society conference about CGRP;https://www.americanheadachesociety.org/assets/1/7/Late_Breakers.pdf.

There is also a bit of information here; http://www.achenet.org/resources/essentials_of_migraine_management_5_abortive_treatment/.

The American Headache Society conference is at the end of this month and I'm sure there will be more information on CGRP to report afterwards.

    1. Is there anywhere online to purchase these as research chemicals now? I'm way more willing to try these now than to use the known side effects of topemax and beta blockers are for blood pressure not migraines!!!!
