Chronic Daily Headache

With chronic daily headache I have a headache every day that never goes away. Sometimes for a moment before truly waking there is a pleasant/non-headache feeling before becoming fully conscious. After I am awake, except for taking a nap, there is no ceasing my pain.

When it comes to bad weather, drops in barometer, heat waves or little sleep, I have a diagnosed "migraine" as the headache is more painful, becomes more of a sinus pressure, ans nausea creeps along.

This has been happening for the past five years. I have been trying to stop meds, because I have almost given up, and am trying to relax my forehead evey chance I get, to stop causing excess stressful tension during working hours.

At this point I have no hope. I eat to keep my mind occupied on something fun, but that nevers lasts long.

  1. Hi pain allthetime,

I'm sorry you are going through such a difficult time right now. It's terribly exhausting to be in daily pain, not to mention depressing and frustrating. As awful as migraine is, please don't lose hope! Let me see what information I can give you to help.

By any chance are you being treated by a true migraine/headache expert? Migraine/headache disorder specialists are just that, experts in one area, migraine and headache. These doctors are board certified in headache medicine which is different than being certified in neurology. Don't get me wrong, neurologists may be fine doctors but have difficult time being experts in one area because they treat so many different conditions such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy and others. When you get a minute take a look at this information on how these doctors are special and how to find one; https://migraine.com/blog/looking-for-a-migraine-specialist.

I see you mentioned barometric changes, irregular sleep patterns and other things are triggers for you. Have you been able to identify any others? If you haven't kept a detailed diary recently I would encourage you to do so. Keeping a migraine diary can help us identify migraine patterns, triggers and things that work and don't work with our attacks. Let me share this article with you on how to keep a diary; https://migraine.com/blog/keeping-migraine-diary-basics.

I talk about medication overuse headache or moh quite a bit because I feel there many of us who aren't aware of it. Unfortunately, moh, which was formerly called rebound, can make our migraines much worse. We simply want our pain to go away so we take pain relievers - makes sense right? BUT moh can occur when we take pain relievers and/or migraine abortive medications, whether they are over-the-counter or prescription, more than two - three times a week. If we are in an moh cycle, our migraines will be more difficult to treat and we can end up in a daily cycle of pain that is hard to break. I've been here before and it's not pleasant.

I hope this helps and that I didn't overwhelm you. Let me know what you think,

    Nancy
