CLUSTER MIGRAINES IS THERE ANY HELP OUT THERE

I AM A 51YR OLD FEMALE THAT STARTED WITH MIGRAINES WHEN I WAS 50 AND I AM NOT IMPRESSED. I HAVE TRIED A MYRIAD OF PAIN PILLS AND LITTLE IF ANY EVER HELP. I DO NOT KNOW IF MY STORY IS LIKE OTHERS SO I AM WRITING IT HERE TO SEE. I AM WILLING AND WANTING OTHERS ADVISE ON WHAT CAN HELP AND IF ANY ONE ELSE HAS THE SAME SYMPTOMOLOGY THAT I DO. I GET THESE MIGRAINES FOR DAYS AT A TIME AND WAKE UP WITH THE NAUSEA AND PAIN AND VOMITTING. I AM UNABLE TO FUNCTION DURING THESE EPISODES AND MISS WORK.
SO HERE GOES IT STARTS WITH ERRUCTATING FOR THOSE THAT DO NOT
KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS IT IS CONSTANT BURPING -NAUSEA IMMEDIATLEY FOLLOWS AND THEN THE PAIN. WELL WHERE TO START THERE...USUALLY BUT NOT ALWAYS BASE OF SKULL WRAPS AROUND FRONT OF HEAD JAW AND TEMPLES AS WELL AS AROUND SINUSES. DID I MENTION THAT TMJ ALSO PLAYS A FACTOR AND CAN BARELY OPEN MOUTH DURING EPISODES. THEN THE VOMITTING AND THAT LASTS A MINIMUM OF 2 DAYS MAXIMUM OF 5DAYS. END UP IN ER GETTING IV FLUIDS AND IV NARCOTICS AND ANTI NAUSEA MEDICATIONS.
I AM GOING TO TRY BOTOX.
CAN ANYONE OUT THERE GIVE ME SOME SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT TO DO AND IF THEY HAVE THESE CLUSTER MIGRAINES AND WHAT HAS HELPED?

  1. Hi Sherridee1,

I'm sorry you are having a difficult time right now. Let's see what I can do to help you out.

One of the first things that comes to mind is are you accurately diagnosed? The reason I ask is the correct diagnosis can make all the difference. It allows us to get the correct treatment and learn what we can about our particular type of migraine and/or headache disorder. We have information in this link about diagnosis; https://migraine.com/blog/diagnosing-migraine/.

When we try new medications for migraine it can take up to three months before we see a reduction in severity and frequency. While we adjust to the new medication, potential side effects may lessen. The thing is if we don't give each medication a fair trial, we'll never know which one would have worked for us.

Another word on migraine prevention medications is we still need to be vigilant about our triggers while we take this medication. If we take medication to prevent migraine attacks but do not avoid our triggers, the medication may not be as effective. Speaking of triggers do you know what any of your are? Trigger identification and management plays an important role in our migraine regime. Take a look at this information with you get a chance; https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-management-essential-trigger-management/.

To figure out what our triggers are a great way to do this is by keeping a detailed migraine diary. There are several ways to do including pen and paper and/or using one of the many available apps out there. You can read more about this here; https://migraine.com/blog/keeping-migraine-diary-basics/.

I'm going to stop now seeing as I've given you a lot of information to go over. If you have questions after you read through this, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Nancy
