Daily headache

Hi, just looking for advice, about a week ago I developed headaches daily (pain scale 6/10), usually around the same time 2pm and 11.30pm, on the right side of my head, just above my eye, my eye feels weird when I get the headaches, it tends to last 1-2 hours each time and then lingers until the next headache, although the lingering pain is completely bearable, I could probably work during the headache bouts if I force myself but it is unpleasant. I seem to have similar symptoms as cluster headaches but without the severe pain. (Just to note I weight lift for 2 hours a day 10am-12pm 5 days a week). Sometimes I wake up with a headache, sometimes I do not, a small amount of alcohol seems to increase the chances of waking up with a headache.

I had a previous history or recurring headaches, had an operation to straight my nasal passage and cuts were made in my sinuses I think to release cavities I am not entirely sure, but it stopped the headaches, this was about 6 years ago.

I have had some sinus infection related mild headaches before since the operation but I usually take antibiotics and it clears up within 48 hours (I get 2-3 sinus infections a year) however although this does feel like a very mild sinus infection I do not have the usual sinus infection symptoms and I have not had headaches like this before with a sinus infection, I am currently taking antibiotics in case I do have an infection but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Does anybody know what this headache is or how long it could last? Maybe I am just being anxious but I feel like this is never going to go away.

Thanks,
Charlie

  1. Hi Charlie,

Thank you for sharing your story with us and welcome to the Migraine.com discussion forum!

I'm sorry you are having a rough time right now. I understand daily head pain all too well. I can't tell you exactly what's going on, but can share information with you. You don't have to live in pain!!

It's important to let the doctor know when we have new and/or different symptoms and/or patterns to our head pain so he/ she can rule out anything more serious. I wouldn't hesitate to get in touch with the doctor, preferably one who is knowledgeable in migraine disease and headache disorders, and get an accurate diagnosis.

Let's talk sinus. Many times this sort of pain is diagnosed as a sinus issue when in reality it may be migraine. In fact when people self diagnose as having a sinus problem, almost 90% have migraine!! When we have a migraine attack, we can experience sinus pain and pressure, runny nose, eye pain/pressure and tearing and so on. If we don't have a fever or gross stuff coming from out nose, most of the time it's a migraine attack. No wonder we think we're having a sinus issue!

You may want to track these "headaches" to see what patterns and/or triggers you have by keeping a detailed migraine diary and here is more information; https://migraine.com/blog/keeping-migraine-diary-basics/. Migraine attack triggers can include but are not limited to certain foods, dehydration, irregular sleep patterns, skipping meals, smoking, certain lights and odors, changes in the barometric pressure and many others. If we can learn what our triggers are and avoid the ones we can, we may be able to reduce our migraine attack frequency.

I hope this helps, please keep me updated,
    Nancy

You'd probably know if you were having cluster headaches because it's one of the worst pain possible, often called suicide headache. People with cluster headache cannot sit still, and will try almost ANYTHING to relieve this pain.
