I live in Delaware, so unfortunately I don’t. But I can tell you how I found mine. Delaware has a magazine called “Delaware Today”, each year they have a “best of” issue and my lawyer was voted best SSI lawyer in the state by her peers. If New Jersey has something like that, I would start there. You can probably look at back issues (or have someone do it for you, depending on your situation) at your local library. Hope that helps. Good Luck.

    Hi Dana,
    Thank you for the advice.
When I did a google search for disability lawyers NJ I found one close by.
But I will search for something Best of Lawyers.
I’ve seen the best doctors so maybe there will be one for lawyers.
Have you had any luck with your lawyer?

Well, I hired an attorney before I even applied because, in Delaware, unless you are blind or have a brain injury..etc… you are always rejected the first time. They immediately went to work on my appeal, which was declined again. I’m only 37 and they said that works against me. I am now on the schedule to have my case go before a judge in the next 9 months. They have done ALL the work, occasionally, they send me a form to update doctors I have seen ( I have several medical conditions) but they get all the files/notes. It allows me to focus on seeing my doctors, not stressing on dealing with Social Security. I do not recommend taking on this process without an attorney. So definitely keep searching for a “best of” kind of list or ask your doctor if they can recommend someone. Also, remember some attorneys can practice law in more than one state. Not sure how close to Delaware you are….?

    Hi,
I’m in northern New Jersey. Paramus. I’m getting more depressed just thinking about all this.

I totally understand. Unfortunately, it’s a very long process. I want to be completely upfront with you. My lawyer does practice in New Jersey and I know you’re far, but I’ve only been to her office twice, everything else has been done via mail and phone, and I will go again before we go to court. I’m not pushing my attorney, we could very well lose, but I do like her and her staff (particularly the paralegal I am working with). If you’d like her info I’d be happy to give it. And keep your head up (as far off your pillow as you can

That would be very nice of you. Could you give me her name and phone number? You are very nice to try to help me.

Her website has a local and toll free number, as well as some additional info: http://www.vickslaw.com
Please let me know what you think. Also, I came across another forum where you mentioned how very depressed you are. I have a lot of experience with depression and anxiety (personal). I would be happy to talk to you anytime you are feeling down. You are not alone!

    Hi Dana,
    You are so sweet!
May I ask how long has it been since you applied?
I would like to talk to you.
I don’t know anyone personally who is in the same situation as me.

    Thanks,
    Maria

Sorry it took so long to reply, I was down for a few days with a migraine. Like I said it’s a very long process, so brace yourself, I applied in July 2014. After being denied twice I was notified at the end of November 2016 that my case would go before a judge in the next 9 months. In Delaware you can’t work during the application process, otherwise why would you need disability? Prior to that I worked full time and it finally got to the point where I could no longer manage with my migraines and other health issues. I have two children and, luckily, a very helpful and understanding ex husband. I also receive some State help. I’m not going to sugar coat, it is a very difficult situation. If I do get approved though I get back salary from the date I applied and then, of course, my SSI assistance payments. Do you mind if I ask what your situation is?

    Hi,
I stopped working in 3/16. don’t have kids and just turned 50. I am going for my 2nd set of cervical spine injections on Wednesday. You can pm me if you want-I don’t want everyone on the forum to know too much personal. You are a sweet person. I will have to figure out how to give you my private email and phone number.

I agree about the personal info, I was a little iffy about giving it out, but it seems like you and I are the only two on the forum. I don’t know how to private message on here. I’m new to this, I only joined about a month or so ago. I will see if I can figure out a way to pm, otherwise I’ll just give you my email.
    Talk to you soon.

Thought that would work, but it doesn’t seem to have made a difference at all. Can you see a way to message me?
