Everyday chronic throbbing migraines.

I would like to know if there is anyone out there that has been told the same thing from a neurogolist as I have. I have had several MRIs done and blood work, etc,

I have a throbbing, pulsating feeling in my head 24/7 along with throbbing, mostly right-sided headache and neck pain. The headache never goes away just the intensity changes. Very hard to function and get to work.

Ny neurogolist said that they are chronic, throbbing migraines.

Does anyone out there get them 24/7?

Thank you
Mariomom

  1. Mariomom,
Sadly there are about 4 million Americans who have chronic migraines, in varying degrees.
For the past 4 years, I have a Migraine 24/7. Some days are worse than others, but I am never without a headache.

I don't want to scare you or make you think it won't get any better. Over time, I have learned better coping mechanisms and am on a variety of medications to help me manage. I can no longer keep a regular office job.

What medications or treatments have you tried? If you haven't tried Botox injections, you should discuss it with your doctor. When this started for me, Botox helped tremendously. This article gives you some of the basics on Botox. https://migraine.com/blog/botox-basics/

Also, this is a great resource to find out about other preventatives or treatments that you may not have tried previously.

Feel free to ask us additional questions. I know how scary it can be to hear the words "chronic Migraine" from your doctor. It is also possible for your Migraines to become less frequent over time.

    1. Hi, Mormonism I also have chronic every day migraines. And recently decided to go on long term disability. Though I don't know how's that going to work, my N.P handling my case seems to just not like me and I can't transfer out cuts she's the only "headache clinic" staff member with credentials high enough to prescribe and reffer.

So mariomom, if you been support we are here for you. Because I know that I sure didn't have any from the doctors, !!!

      1. Hi Mariomom,

Have you had cervical or thoracic MRI?

Nerve root inflammation in the neck or spine can chronically inflame neck muscles, aggravating blood flow, refer pain to various parts of the head, and make pre-existing migraines much worse. Trigger point injections to stabilize weak thoracic or cervical muscles can be a big help.

Are your headaches stabbing in addition to throbbing? A trial of the drug indomethican is worthwhile for 24/7 headaches, especially stabbing headaches.

I have had luck with short courses of steroids to decrease general inflammation and break constant headache cycles.

Keep uncovering stones, there are answers and solutions out there.

        Best of luck.

        1. I started getting migraines after a concussion from a car accident about 10 years ago. I got a very rare type of migraine aura that doctors are still baffled by....some think it's actually a migraine mixed with a type of walking seizure ?? But these are all guesses. After I was put on lexapro about 4 years ago they stopped and I started getting what I experience today: my daily throbbing migraines.
This last really bad one started in October and I was at about a 7/10 pain scale daily, going to work wearing sunglasses all the time. I was referred to the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago and spent a week in the hospital with them on IV Digydroergotamine, or DHE and oral Topomax. This was in late January. I have been doing really well until this month. All the patients I met at this clinic were in the same boat: some type of chronic migraine or headache. Hearing how all of them are on some type of disability or medical leave (even kids being homeschooled because of their pain) I'm getting nervous and scared. I've also been getting depressed and anxious with doctors not being able to get anywhere with me.
I guess it's just nice to know I'm not alone 😀
