Frequent Auras

Hi I have been a migraine sufferer since my 20's off and on with aura and without. When I went through menopause, my migraines changed and I only experienced the aura, no headache. Then miraculously for a year and a half the migraines went away completely. Over the past few months they have returned with a vengeance, I believe due to taking care of my granddaughter who is now 20lbs. This has put considerable strain on my neck and shoulder muscles. I go to my chiropractor and get massages which seem to help for a week or two but then they are back. It is very frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping the neck muscles loose? Anyone have a similar experience? I would appreciate any advice or just to hear from someone going through the same thing.

  1. Hi mistycat511,

Thank you for your questions and being part of the Migraine.com discussion forum. I am however, sorry to hear you're having more attacks, that's very frustrating. Let me see what information I can give you that may help.

I bet you're enjoying taking care of your granddaughter, but lifting 20lbs. all day can put a strain on neck and shoulders as you are finding out. Is there anyway you could lift her a bit less? That's probably a silly question!!

Having said that, you may want to investigate physical therapy, or PT. PT would help you with neck and shoulder strengthening exercises and maybe even a different way to lift your granddaughter.

We have information on neck issues and migraine and PT in these articles; https://migraine.com/blog/some-headaches-are-caused-by-neck-problems/ and https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-treatment-experiences-physical-therapy/.

Let me know what you think,
    Nancy
