Has anyone heard of TruDenta?

Hi,

I was walking out of a medical building and saw out of the corner of my eye a banner of a Migraine Treatment Center which always grabs my attention. I looked it up on the internet when I got home and found out this treatment is actually a dental office that works with chronic headache patients. The program is called TruDenta and this dentist office is the only one that offers this program in West Michigan. I set up an appointment and this dentist seems to be very knowledgeable about headaches and told me it's a program that was created by neurologists and dentists and deals with the affect of the jaw and the
trigeminal nerve. He works with medical insurance companies, not dental insurance.

What I liked about the information is that it is noninvasive with the goal of reducing medications that headache patients are on. He made no promises but asked for a commitment to work on the treatment process outside of the office. I would be expected to work on exercises like a physical therapy and practicing relaxation exercises. It all made sense but since I've never heard of this, I was hoping someone out there had ever heard of this treatment.

I have just been rejected by my insurance company for the Omega Procedure (a neurotransmitter for headaches) and trying to appeal that decision. Meanwhile I can try something noninvasive. I would rather try this than have something so expensive and invasive as a neurotransmitter. Maybe this is what I've been waiting for. It is a 12 week program that costs between $5000-$6000 with hopes of some of it covered by my medical insurance.

Any opinions about this? Has anyone have knowledge of this program? Has anyone tried this program? I would appreciate any response to my possibility?

  1. Hi Wanda,

We actually have a new article on Trudenta you can read about here; https://migraine.com/blog/surviving-latest-totally-effective-treatment/. Any time we see a procedure, medication or device that claims to rid migraine is suspect. Migraine is a genetic neurological disease that needs to be managed, as there is no cure at this moment.

In my honest opinion, I would totally exhaust any and all other options before having surgery or spending this kind of money on something there is little research on. Have you by any chance seen a 'true' migraine expert rather than a general neurologist? Migraine/headache experts treat one condition - ours - all day every day. Neurologists may be fine doctors, but have a hard time being experts in one area because they treat so many different conditions such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's and others. Let me share information on how this doctors are so very special and how to find one; https://migraine.com/blog/how-are-migraine-specialists-different/ and https://migraine.com/blog/looking-for-a-migraine-specialist/. One thing to keep in mind is that not every doctor works best with every patient, sometimes we need to see a number of doctors before we find the right one.

I did want to mention there is an excellent migraine/headache clinic in MI - The Michigan Headache and Neurological Institute. There are world class migraine/headache experts and something you may want to look into.

    I hope this helps,
    Nancy
