Headache/Pressure Above Eyes 3 months Straight

Hi All,

I want to preface this post by saying I'm a 25-year-old male with no history of any medical problems.

Hoping someone can help me out here. Around 3 months ago, I started getting a weird pressure like headache above my eyes (the left eye is much worse than the right) (see picture attached
https://imgur.com/a/ZTijJDl).

It started off only happening a couple of hours of the day (gets worse in bright lights or if I strain my eyes), but progressively got worse and worse, and now it's constant. Sometimes it's at a 3, and other times it's at an 8, but it's always there. At times I feel like my eye is going to pop out of my head from the pressure. This happened to me before around 8 months ago and lasted approximately 3 weeks but wasn't as bad. I went to my family doctor, and he told me it's probably a sinus issue. When it came back again in September, I thought it was the same and was put on antibiotics, but nothing worked. I kept thinking that it would just be something that is going to go away, but it didn't. It got so bad to the point that it was affecting my day to day life. Work was hell. I couldn't go out.

I ended up going to an ENT, and he ordered a CT scan, and that came back clear. Then I went to a Neurologist, they ordered a brain MRI with Contrast, and that came back completely normal. They don't know what's wrong with me. My Neuro told me that it's probably some sort of weird migrainous headache, and she told me to take a 6-day course of steroids to try to break the cycle (Medrol Dose Pack) and to start taking 400mg Magnesium and 400 Vitamin B2 daily. It calmed down the pressure/pain by around 30%, but now it's just constant and has been so for at least a month and a half. I have scoured the internet trying to find someone that has had something similar and cannot find anything. Now they want to put me on preventative treatment, but I have not yet started it.

I've also gone and got my eyes checked with an Optometrist and a Neuro-ophthalmologist, and my Thyroids checked, and everything was perfect.

Has anyone had similar symptoms? Looking for any advice here. Thanks so much.

  1. Hello Migraineegypt,
I have the same issue with my left eye and have had a migraine for two days now that my medicine, sumatriptan, would normally fix.
I have had the left eye pain for years and have had similar tests, always thinking I must have a tumor behind my eye because it feels like it's being stabbed.
The left eye pain and tension headaches go together for me and I noticed triggers are dehydration, not eating soon enough, stress.
I also have a twitch in that left eye as well that goes like crazy when I am stressed or tired. The eye lid is slightly lower and is noticeable in pics. so seems to be muscle damaged related as well. I have no idea.
My migraines started 3 years ago and at the same time I had a neck adjustment at the chiropractor. The dr. was a bit weird that day and when I questioned him if he was okay, he quickly adjusted my neck. I can't say for sure, but I think there is a correlation.
I certainly get what you are saying with light sensitivity and every testing coming back negative. Sorry to not offer much, but I totally understand and I would keep checking out the community blogs, as I gain new information each time.
    I get it!

    1. Hi migraneegypt,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I am sorry to hear you are having lasting head/eye pain, that can be so very frustrating.

It may very well be some sort of migraine attack, or migraine-like headache. I'm happy to hear all your tests came back clear, which is common in those of us with migraine.

Magnesium and B2 are two good choices for migraine prevention and a good starting place. It can take up to 90 days before we see a real reduction in our migraine frequency and severity. I'm encouraged you've seen progress in a short amount of time, stick with them.

If in a few months you're not seeing more progress, you may want to discuss adding another or different supplement or medication to help prevent this pain. There are over 100 medications, supplements and devices that can be used to treat migraine. Don't lose hope!!

The internet has great information and some really bad information on migraine and headache disease. The thing is only a qualified doctor can truly tell you what's going on and diagnose you. If you're not happy with your current doctor, or feel she isn't listening to you, don't hesitate to find one who will!

Try not lose patience, it take time.

      I hope this helps,
      Nancy

      1. Hi fleabag,

Thank you for sharing your supportive thoughts with us! We're so happy you're part of our community!

Wishing you a low pain day,
        Nancy

        1. @migraineegypt,
Thank you for sharing your journey with migraine. Your post sounded like my story almost exactly! It took me a long time to get an accurate diagnosis. Everyone thought I just had sinus problems when really they are migraine symptoms. I take those supplements too, but am also on preventive medications since I have lots of migraine attacks. I really do wish you well. Be persistent with your neurologist until you feel better.
