Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Has anyone tried Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? You go into a chamber which is then pressurized and made oxygen-rich. According to theory your body gets more oxygen and uses it for healing. I am getting this therapy as a freebie by accompanying my daughter who has Autism. She seems to be more aware, more present, and better able to memorize her piano pieces. My eustachian tubes are less plugged up, and I have not had a migrain since starting treatment. It's only been 3 weeks, though, so we'll see how it goes.

  1. Forgot to check the box requesting email notifications of replies. Just noticed, too, that I typed in the word "migraine" without the e.

    1. Hi RitaCarol,
Thank you for posting on our forums! We are thrilled to hear that you have been migraine free for 3 weeks. In addition to the feedback I hope you get from the community, I wanted to provide you with a bit more info on hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

In our overview on preventative treatment for migraine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is mentioned under nonpharmacologic preventatives: https://migraine.com/pro/preventative-treatment-for-migraine-overview-and-approach/
Though there is not much written evidence to support its efficacy, many of our community members have had success using it.

Additionally, oxygen therapy is listed as an abortive in this article on cluster headaches: https://migraine.com/blog/cluster-headaches-explained/

Please let us know how you feel as you continue to attend these therapy sessions with your daughter.

      Best,
      Jillian (Migraine.com Team)

      1. All I can say is the VERY FEW times I've gone to the ER, they've put me on oxygen for comfort and it has helped. I know this thread is over a year old, but if you went through with it, I'd love to know how it went.

        1. Rita,

Wow! I had some success with it but it became too expensive! Have you tried deoxyhaemoglobin vasodilator? It is portable and demonstrates a far superior effect on perfusion index, which indicates the percentage of oxygenated haemoglobin in your blood
