Just had a strange thing happen

Hi All!

Just had a strange thing happen.

I woke with a slight headache on the left hand side of my head. Not really bad (a 2 on a scale of 1 - 5.)

I took an ibuprofen but before that should have really worked (10 mins after), I jumped into the shower. I was washing my hair and as I massaged the side of the head where the headache was, the headache began dissipating. Very strange. I began massaging it a bit more vigorously as it was really nice and was happy the headache was vanishing.

Now it has completely gone and the ibuprofen will have kicked in now as well. Was this coincidence? the ibuprofen shouldn't have worked after 10 mins and added to the fact that it was going as I massaged the head as well.

Someone did mention, "have you tried head massages?" in relation to my headaches before. Anyone have these? also, anyone shed any light on my strange occurrence?

Thanks!

  1. Hello ChunkyPeanutBar! Thank you for sharing your recent experience with the community. I'm so glad you were able to ease your migraine symptoms with some focused scalp massage while showering. Massage is an alternative medicine technique that many do find to be beneficial for helping to manage migraine. I thought this article, which provides a bit of an introduction, might be of interest to you:

    1. Hi ChunkyPeanutBar,

How very interesting! It certainly is possible as Allyson mentioned that massage may be beneficial. Cranial sacral therapy, another type of alternative therapy is also found to be useful in treating migraine disease. Here is an article that may be helpful; https://migraine.com/blog/craniosacral-therapy-for-migraine/.

      1. I often find personally that massaging or simply pressing and holding the painful area (or pressing my forehead/temple into a loved one's shoulder) can at least provide some degree of temporary relief to help bridge til my abortives kick in.

        1. Yeah I found that helps too.

      2. Hi Galadhwen,

That's great you've been able to find something that is beneficial while waiting for your abortive to kick in. Thank you for sharing that with the community.

Wishing you a low pain day,
