lack of exercise

Hi there. Last month I started having migraines for the first time in my life, and I now have 2-3 every week. I am 29 and never had bad headaches before this. Everyone keeps asking me what I may have changed in my life to trigger them to start, but all I can think of is that I used to exercise quite often but I have taken several months off recently before the mirgaine-ception. Could this be a cause? My migraines have a warning sign of numbness and tingling on one side of my body that lasts for about 30-45 minutes as the headache starts. I lose a lot of cognitive thought during this time. It is so frightening! I will take, help, advice, comfort, anything!

  1. Hi monicaP,

Thank you for your question, and welcome to the discussion forum. I'm sorry you are experiencing these types of attacks. Let's see what information I can give you to help you out.

You mentioned you've had "headaches" before, but they haven't been as bad as these current attacks. Have you been able to speak to your doctor about these new symptoms? If not, that would be the first thing to do so the doctor can rule out anything more serious.

Migraine with aura can have some of the symptoms you've mentioned. not that I'm suggesting you have that, rather give you something you can discuss with your doctor. Here is information on migraine with aura; https://migraine.com/migraine-types/migraine-typical-aura/.

The "headaches" you've been experiencing may indeed be migraine, but again, only a doctor can confirm that. A diagnosis is made after you've had a complete neurological workup, goes over your symptoms and discusses your medical history and your family's medical history. Here is information about migraine diagnosis; https://migraine.com/blog/diagnosing-migraine/.

The thing about migraine is our patterns and symptoms can change over time and what we thought were "headaches" really could be migraine. Many of us walk about every day with mild to moderate migraine pain. Here is an interesting article on this topic; https://migraine.com/blog/just-a-headache-why-it-bothers/.

Good luck, keep me posted on how you are feeling,
    Nancy
