longer lasting triptans

So imitrex seems not to last long enough to stop my migraines anymore. The problem is though I already had to switch to the nasal spray because the migraines are coming on faster and stronger lately and my stomach takes forever to digest/adsorb anything during a migraine.

I remember trying maxalt melts a long time ago and got extremely sick from it - vomiting, severe vertigo, shaking etc. I also cant even smell the fake raspberry anymore without wanting to puke so its not an option.

Is there any other triptans with a longer half-life that are not pills? I'm too tired and sore to look them all up like I would normally. I'm getting good success on the first day but it comes back 16-18 hours later and I don't have enough days of meds to treat the second day - 24/7 headaches with 1-2 severe migraines a week that last 2-4 days normally with treatment and rest - no treatment = ER or admitted. I'm already had 8 days of meds this month so this scares me for the next couple of weeks.

Yes I'm on 2 different preventatives (Inderal and Cymbalta -tried topomax and evail with no success), another addition for depression, magnesium (tried the other supplements no success), botox, trigger point injections, and all the natural treatments - chiro, massage, craniosacral, acupuncture, psychologist, prolotherapy. So I am doing everything else I can. fun times, thanks.

  1. From everything I have read, the triptans with the longer half-life are only in pill form. I know that Zomig is also sold as a melt tablet and possibly a spray. I got the terrible side effects from Imitrex and Maxalt, but did not get them from Zomig. However, Zomig also didn't work for me, but it may work for you. Hope that helps!
