Looking for anyone with similar symptoms

Hello,

I am new to this forum, so I want to give a little bit of my history.

I am 29 and started having migraines about 4 years ago. I told my PMP and I got an MRI. They discovered lesions, black spots on the my brain, and now I am currently benign monitored for MS.

With all of this I still have no explanations for my migraines. I am having less and less over time but I still get them. My doctor has offered me prescriptions but I really don't want to take them because my migraines are not that bad if I can take excedrin in time.

From this post, I am hoping to see if anyone has the same symptoms that lead to a migraine. Before my migraine starts a always get a blurry streak in my vision, once the streak is gone then the migraine pain starts.

If any one experiences the same thing please let me know.

Thanks
Kara

  1. Hi Kara,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us an sharing your journey - Welcome!!

Some of the symptoms you describe can be associated with a migraine attack. About 25-30% of people with migraine disease experience aura, or the second phase of a migraine attack.

The thing about migraine is, it's a genetic neurological disease, not simply a headache. A migraine attack can be extremely debilitating and/or fairly mild, which is no less aggravating and typically has four phases; prodrome, aura, headache and postdrome. When you get a moment take a look at this information on the phases of a migraine attack; https://migraine.com/infographic/the-four-phases-graphic/.

I'm sure others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.

    Keep me posted!
    Nancy

    1. Thank you Nancy. That was very informative. I've been living with this for so long and never got that type of explanation. I do have visual aura and feel the postdrome, but I don't know what my prodrome is. I have been analyzing so much to find triggers, but my migraines are so random. I don't understand it.

Are there actual trigger that occur? Have you found what yours are?

    2. Hi lpkara,

I'm glad you found that helpful. Yes, I have found a few of my triggers; dehydration, irregular sleeping patterns, skipping meals and sometimes barometric weather changes, too much gluten and MSG. I've found, though not always, if I have a bit of gluten I may not get a migraine attack. However, if I have a bit of gluten, become dehydrated, and don't get enough or too much sleep, then I'll get a migraine attack. And even if I avoid all the above triggers, and am the ideal patient, I may still get a migraine attack. This seems to be the nature of migraine disease.

A few of my prodrome (which can serve as a warning sign an attack is on the way) symptoms include irritability, frequent yawning and urination. One of the problems with triggers and symptoms is they seem to be different from person to person.

Give the diary a try, it may help!

I look forward to hearing from you soon,
      Nancy
