Magnet therapy

Has anyone had any experience with using am device that sends magnetic impulses to the brain to relieve migraine pain as well as reducing the number of migraines for someone with chronic migraines?

  1. I am Lil's mother seeking help for her chronic migraines. Alternatives to medication

    1. You should read about the Cefaly, a headband like device that sends electric impulses to help reduce headache pain. It was just approved by the FDA for use in the US. I've not tried it, but our writer Kerrie has.

There is also the Occipital Nerve Stimulator that is an electronic device that is surgically implanted under the scalp. Of course surgery is a big decision and has to be right for Lil and your family.

Other less invasive alternatives to medication are acupuncture, yoga and massage. Again our site has an amazing search engine so feel free to poke around. I've personally used all of these alternative methods so let me know if you have any questions.

      1. Are you referring to transcranial magnetic stimulation? The FDA approved a device in December 2013, but it is not available to the public. The company that makes the FDA-approved device is working on a smaller, less cumbersome version. They are aiming to have it available this year.

        1. Yes- thanks. There is a Dr where I live that uses TMS to treat depression using a device (machine rather as it is quite large) called Neurostar. My daughters neurologist has referred my daughter.

      2. Cerena is the name of the device approved in December. The one the company is hoping to make available later this year is called SpringTMS. You can read about it at http://www.eneura.com/. And keep an eye on Migraine.com for updates -- this is such big news that I'm sure we'll cover it when it's approved.

Best of luck in finding an effective treatment for your daughter. Please let us know if she has success with the machine the doctor in your town uses.
