Massage migraine?

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this: When I get a migraine, I always think that a good massage will help my muscles and nerve endings to relax. Well, a massage does just the opposite for me. So disappointed. It makes my migraines much worse. Does anyone know why this is?

  1. Hi leroth,

For some people massage is a wonderful way to help alleviate muscle tension. Others are not as fortunate because some forms of massage may trigger a migraine attack.

I'm not exactly sure how this happens, but would suspect that deep tissue massage may irritate our muscles.

Have you tried cold or hear therapy when you have a migraine as a comfort measure? A cold compress on your forehead and the back of your neck may be very helpful during a migraine.
