Maxalt - Doctor says NO GENERIC??

I have suffered from severe migraines since I was 10 or 11, but this post is about my niece. She was recently diagnosed with migraines at age 11. The doctor prescribed Maxalt but specifically indicated "NO GENERIC". The price difference is prohibitive ($1200 for Maxalt, $30 for generic). Is there really a legit reason not to use the generic?
Thanks in advance for any information!

  1. Hi walker,

Thank you for your question! There supposedly is no difference in active ingredients between brand name and generic medications. Having said that, many patients have expressed they find a difference when taking brand name vs. generic. I'm really not sure why the doctor did this, maybe a phone call to his office would be helpful?

Please let us know how she makes out.
