Migraine diet: home canned foods

I have heard that canned foods are a problem for migraines, but does anyone know if it would be OK if we home can in glass jars and don't put in preservatives or non-migraine diet foods? Where we live I can't always get a lot of good fresh foods, so I'm trying to think what's best to do. We have very little freezer space, so I can't freeze much at a time.

Thanks for any advice!

  1. Hi DizzyLady,

Thank you for your question and being part of the Migraine.com discussion forum. We're glad you're here!

I think that sounds like a brilliant idea, as long as the food you put into the glass canning jars are not migraine triggers for you. Do you have a sense of what, if any, your food triggers are? If not, you may want to think about keeping a detailed migraine diary for at least three months. I've been keeping one since I started Botox in August using pen and paper. If that doesn't work there are plenty of apps out there that are helpful. Let me share this information with you on how to keep a migraine diary; https://migraine.com/blog/keeping-migraine-diary-basics/.

Let me know how you make out!
