Migraine suddenly aged 54 - ?menopause

Hi everyone - I'm new to this so bear with me with the 'daft questions''!!
I've never had a migraine in my life before - suddenly had one about 2 weeks ago. Ended up in A & E and hospital for 3 days but everything checked out ok. Hoped it was just a one off but had another attack 2 days ago.
It's all a bit frightening so just trying to understand it all. The only thing that's different for me is being menopausal. I've been having hot flushes for about 4 years but they seem to have ramped up. Does anyone know much about migraines starting in the menopause please? There's a few vague bits online but seems more related to migraines getting worse/better rather than actually starting. Any info gratefully received. Thanks Andree

  1. Hi Andree,

Thank you for your question and being part of the Migraine.com discussion forum!

This recent migraine may very well be associated with menopause, as fluctuating hormones can trigger migraines. But to be on the safe side, I would encourage you to speak with your doctor so he/she can rule out anything more serious.

We have information from a migraine expert here that may help; https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-and-menopause/.

Keep me posted on how you are feeling,

    Nancy

  2. Thanks Nancy - I'm fairly certain these are migraines as I've had a CT scan and lumbar puncture which were clear. I'm just about to go back to the GP after this second attack to see what meds are best to use. The article was helpful. I will let you know how I get on! Andree

    1. Thanks Andree,

I'm looking forward to your update!
