Mirgranal expiration?

Hello,

The only med that has ever worked for me is Migranal. Once I take it my migraine is all but gone in 15-20 mins, with just a mild headache left. I have gone from as many as 40 migraine in a month down to months with out a migraine.

I learned a long time ago to stock pile my Migranal since you can only get 8 a month. The problem I'm having now is that my stock pile is starting to expire. I'm finding that bottles that are a year past their expiration date still work. Does anyone know or have experience with using Migranal that is expired? Since loosing my insurance I can not afford to buy Migranal and the VA will not cover it. So my plan is to keep using what I have unless it stops working or there is data that says it's harmful to use past the expiration date(well past).

  1. Hi Kelly,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I have stored some medications in my freezer, but at some point they have to be disposed of. You may want to have a conversation with you pharmacist for some direction.

I did want to mention if we have three to four severe migraine attacks a month, it's time to discuss migraine prevention with the doctor. Migranal (https://migraine.com/migraine-treatment/migranal/) is to break a migraine attack, not prevent them. Taking migraine medications, such a Migranal, and/or pain relievers, whether they are over-the-counter or prescription more than two to three days a week can increase our risk for rebound headache. If we have rebound our migraine attacks may be more difficult to treat and we can end up in a daily cycle of endless pain that may be hard to break. Here is more on rebound headache; https://migraine.com/living-migraine/stop-rebound-headaches/.

    I hope this helps!
    Nancy
