Morning Migraines

A change in time of migraine. Have been waking up to just the migraine headache, nausea and dizziness. Usually I have the auras first so I can take Imitrex, but now being blindsighted by these morning migraines.

Now having them three times a week. My neuro gave me a muscle relaxer (which is doing nothing) and I am increasing Zonegran and Pamelor every other day.

I am currently on Zonegran 50 mg and Pamelor 20 mg.

I am perplexed with the change in timing of these migraines and the frequency too.

Thank you for reading my post.

Jo

  1. Hi Jo,

I'm sorry to hear you're having an uptick in migraine attack frequency, that's very frustrating. It's not uncommon for our migraine attack patterns and triggers to change over time, I know mine have.

Many times when we wake with migraine pain it may be due to a sleep issue and you may want to discuss having a sleep study with your doctor. Sleep apnea is not the only problem that can trigger morning migraine attacks. Restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder are a few other conditions that can contribute to morning migraine attacks. I have both and take tizanidine along with medical cannabis to help with this, which has reduce my morning migraine attacks.

Keeping a regular sleep schedule is also very helpful in reducing morning migraine attacks. Let me share some information with you on how to get a good nights sleep; https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-triggers-sleep-1/ and https://migraine.com/blog/sleep-routine/.

    1. Have you tried changing your pillow? I have had more pillows than I can remember and each one effects my migraines differently. I am still searching for the perfect pillow but that's another story. Make sure that your neck is properly supported at night and that your pillow is firm enough to do this.

      1. Great tip Martin!! Thank you for sharing it with us!
