Movie Theaters

Yet another new trigger. Alas.

  1. Hi glassmind,

It's frustrating how our triggers can change over time. It would be nice to eliminate some of them instead of adding!!

I don't go to the movies often but when I do I try and remember ear plugs, it helps with sound.

I also wonder if glasses specifically made for indoor light sensitivity would be helpful?

Wishing you a low pain day,
    Nancy

    1. The sound is a big trigger. It's just too visually overwhelming. The previews are too flashy even if ghe movie is tame. Sunglasses help with the brightness, but the led strip lighting for the aisles gives me vertigo and migraine, too.

The oversized visuals is just too much also. My brain seems to want life in only life sized and paced form any longer.

I'm just gonna stay home for movies now.

      I'm kinda okay with it.

It's more the missed social connections. But I have three friends who like movies at home, so we just do that now.

    2. Hi glassmind,

Good to hear you've found a group of friends who are willing to watch movies at home - they sounds like keepers!!

Wishing you a low pain day,
      Nancy

  2. Just coming by to say--I feel you. The sensory things aren't so bad for me that I can't enjoy a movie on a good day, thankfully, though I rarely watch anything in the theater anymore without wearing earplugs (and forget about amplified concerts). But there have been plenty of days when I nope out of going to see something I was excited about because I'm somewhere on the predrome-migraine-postdrome lineup, and I've learned to watch for seizure warnings on media. (There are parts of Incredibles 2 and Into the Spidey-Verse that I just can't watch on any sized screen.)

I'm glad you have home movie buddies! Your mileage may vary but I've gotten into fictional-podcast culture too, the shows that are modeled more or less on golden-age radio plays. It's a great creative media that involves zero visual overstimulation.

    1. I do enjoy podcasts. Will look for fictional ones. I love old time radio. Used to listen to old shows on cassette. Thanks for the tip.

  3. Great idea, Galadhwen!! Thank you for sharing that with us. I've just started to get into podcasts, and love them!! You're right, no overstimulation.

Wishing you a low pain day,

    1. I feel your pain as i'm a huge movie geek, Bizarrely i have the opposite problem to yours with my migraines, I can go to the cinema and watch films without it being too much of a problem, i may still have some symptoms but can actually enjoy watching a full film without feeling terrible but i can't watch any kind of tv or films at home as it sets me straight off, I have never quite understood this, migraines are strange to the least! Have you tried different cinemas, I have found some that were worse for me than others, i believe cinemas with a laser projector seem to be the best for me,

      1. It seems any theater. Any movie on the big screen. Any any "flashy" movie on any screen. There might be a big screen out there that would work, but I have given up trying. The risk is too great. Thanks for the feedback and I'm happy for you are able to enjoy the laser projected films.
