MRI Revealed Brain Leisons - Migraine Related?

I had a TIA (mini-stroke)earlier this year in June. My headache specialist wasn't so much worried about the TIA as she was about MS. I had an MRI which revealed a lesion on my brain so the neurologist at the MS center ordered an MRI of my spine which was clear and MS was ruled
out (Thank God.) My headache specialist said that these leisons are fairly common in people
who have long-standing migraine. She read the radiologist report - but hasn't seen the CD yet.
Has anyone else had an MRI which revealed lesions on your brain due to migraine?

Thanks.

  1. Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your post! We are glad you are a part of our community. I am happy to hear they ruled out a MS diagnosis. It must be such a relief, however I do hear the concern related to lesions. The following articles discuss the presence of lesions on the brain as it is related to chronic migraine - https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-white-matter-lesions/, https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-structural-brain-changes/, https://migraine.com/blog/follow-up-study-confirms-migraine-not-associated-with-cognitive-decline/. I hope you find these helpful! If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to reach out. We love hearing from you. Wishing you a lovely day.

    Warmly,

    1. I have two white matter brain lesions probably due to chronic migraine - one in my frontal lobe I believe and one on my cervical spine (might be from a car accident). I know that 6 month wait for a repeat MRI and further down my spine was nerve wracking to determine if it was MS .
